Master's Degree in Constitutional Law

The Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies of the Ministry of the Presidency (CEPC) in partnership with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) offer an Official Master's Degree in Constitutional Law.

The CEPC is a benchmark institution in the field of public law and social sciences. The Diploma in Political and Constitutional Studies has been offered without interruption since the 1979-1980 academic year, and has become a highly recognised diploma in academic, legal and political circles in Spain and Latin America. Many of its graduates today hold prominent positions in constitutional courts, parliamentary assemblies, universities and public administrations in Ibero-American countries.

The new Master's programme reflects this experience. It is aimed both at those who wish to embark upon a career in public law and the study of political systems, as well as those seeking to pursue a professional career in the public sector. For the latter, the training pathway offered by the Master's degree can be considered either as a first stage in preparing for the civil service entrance examinations, or as postgraduate course to broaden the knowledge and skills of professionals in the public administration and related consultancy fields.

Structure

The programme is adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the workload is expressed in ECTS credits, the standard adopted by universities within the EHEA to ensure consistency and quality of university education.

The Master's Degree lasts one academic year (from October to June), divided into two semesters, comprising a total of 60 ECTS and 600 teaching hours.

  • 42 credits for compulsory courses.
  • 1 credit for attending a seminar on introduction to research methodology (to choose between two).
  • 10 credits for optional courses, chosen from a range of seventeen seminars held over the entire academic year.
  • 6 credits for the completion of the research report (Master's thesis) supervised by a tutor.
  • 1 credit for the Conferences and Institutional Visits Programme organised by the CEPC.

The course is structured in seven thematic modules:

  • IV. Citizens facing power (8 ECTS)
