Resumen
A John Stuart Mill se le considera tradicionalmente el padre intelectual del ideal de la representación proporcional. Su obra de 1861, Considerations on Representative Government, se cita profusamente como el soporte teórico en el que beberían las justificaciones normativas de la proporcionalidad. Este artículo persigue poner en tela de juicio dicha consideración y desvelar la influencia de la misma en la interpretación del propio pensamiento político de Mill.

Abstract
Stuart Mill in considered as one of the fathers of proportional representation. His book Considerations on Representative Goverment, from 1861, is cited as the source of the main normative justifications of proportionality. This paper intends to contest that statement and, at the same time, to reveal the influence of that assumption on the interpretation of Mill’s political thought.
